La becquée (Instants d'Humanité)
This work depicts the first encounter between the goddess Diana and the nymph Aegle, one of the three nymphs of the Garden of the Hesperides.
As tradition dictates, the two deities are presented nude.
The text, highly sensual, explicitly mentions the meadow adjacent to the orchard. The allusions to the mirabelle plum are very subtle.
This fruit, although known to Alexander the Great, was never before mentioned in ancient mythological texts.
The numerous and vibrant flowers surrounding Diana are periwinkles. In Wiccan tradition, this flower, ground into powder, has been used for centuries as a love potion. But it is clear that the goddess did not need to resort to this stratagem to seduce Aegle. Are not all the nymphs in the service of the lunar deity? Of course they are.
